Torsion springs are coil springs. Torsion springs can store and release angular energy or statically immobilize a device by rotating a force arm around the center axis of the spring body. These springs are usually close-bodied, however, there is a pitch between the coils to minimize friction. They provide resistance to rotational or translational external forces. The direction of rotation of a torsion spring is determined by designing the direction of rotation (clockwise or counterclockwise) according to the requirements of the application.
